Michael Green, Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist
Michael Green, Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist

I am a psychotherapist who works with a broad spectrum of psychological and emotional distress including relationship difficulties, the impact of trauma, anxiety, depression and life transitions. My primary trainings and interests are clinical psychology, psychoanalysis, somatic (body-centred) psychotherapy, Jungian psychology, emotion-focussed therapy, and the intersections between western and eastern traditions. I also teach meditation and am a registered yoga teacher (500 hour YTT). I am registered for medicare and private health rebates.
I have experience in a diverse range of organisational and private practice settings over many years. In addition to my clinical work I founded a national journal for psychotherapists and counsellors, established a low fee clinic which provided long term psychoanalytic psychotherapy to several hundred patients over a period of approximately 10 years, and conducted long term clinic based research into the therapeutic relationship with special reference to patients who have experienced complex trauma. I have presented the results of this research in both Australia and Europe. I have also consulted and taught in yoga teacher trainings in Ubud, Bali on the psychological aspects of group process, and on the synergies between psychology and traditional yogic practice. In 2012 I was one of the founders of our practice at South Melbourne, and since that time I have devoted my energies to private practise psychotherapy.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with a primary focus upon couples counselling which has spanned my entire career. Heading up South Melbourne Psychology has meant that I have been able to put my knowledge from 20 years of experience into the development of an integrated practice model. This model understands the person in their context. This means looking at how problems and symptoms manifest as a result of such things as lifestyle or upbringing or socialisation or past hurts and memories. The aim is to find ones own healing wisdom, a space where acceptance of self is possible and negative self sabotaging cycles are left behind.
I use traditional methods such as CBT, problems solving and conflict resolution techniques while also offering my learning from Buddhism, existentialism and psychoanalysis.
I have worked with family relationships for my whole career. Check my good relating blog on this site.

I am a Psychologist with over 16 years experience in private practice. I am Spanish speaking and work with many clients from non English speaking backgrounds. I have training in couple and family therapy and use gestalt, CBT and mindfulness in my practice. In addition, I am highly qualified in the treatment of trauma, having undertaken training in EMDR.
I understand that taking the step to come to therapy can be difficult, so I am committed to making each person feel comfortable, heard and understood. I see therapy as a dialogue that helps promote awareness and understanding of oneself. My intention is to help you become clearer, less stressed and coping better with all areas of your life. Understanding your family background, will help uncover core themes and unconscious beliefs which have influenced your choices. Using a compassionate and supportive approach will help build a positive experience to reclaim a stronger connection with yourself and others.

My particular skills and interests as a Psychologist and Psychotherapist are in assisting people to address psychological issues such as fears and worries, low mood, trauma, and interpersonal relationship difficulties. I also enjoy the challenge of working with more complex issues that may be present in the context of developmental concerns, physical health difficulties, and/or alcohol or other substance use.
I have been fully registered as a Clinical Psychologist for over seventeen years. In that time I have had a great deal of experience working with adults, children, young people, and families. I have worked previously in the Public Sector in both Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centres and Adult Mental Health Services.
My approach is focused on working with my clients to understand the factors contributing to their distress and/or concerns, and then agree on a path toward their goals for change. Achieving change may involve the use of a range of techniques and strategies which are discussed before beginning this process.
I also offer supervision to other psychologists, including supervision for clinical endorsement.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss your needs – you can call me directly on 0437 707 360 or call the South Melbourne office on 9696 2432 and leave a message for me to call you.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with 11 years’ experience in the field of mental health and psychotherapy. The core of my work is treating adolescents and young adults presenting with a range of psychological issues. I have worked in Senior Psychologist positions at Orygen Youth Health as well as roles at adolescent mental health services headspace and eheadspace and working in private practice.
I am passionate about gaining a deep understanding of my clients’ issues and helping them reach their psychological potential. I work collaboratively with clients to explore the meaning behind presenting problems by understanding the links between early life experiences and how they impact on current issues. Clients are provided with a tailor-made treatment plan that targets the presenting problems and supports them in reaching their therapy goals.
I like to incorporate technology into my practice and keep up to date with the latest apps and programs that can support my clients in their therapy goals. I believe that technology enhances our lives through expanding social connections, vastly increasing access to information and generally making our lives run more efficiently. I also believe that we spend so much time on our devices so we need to be mindful of their impact on our psychological well being by taking a balanced approach to the online space.
I draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Psychodymamic approaches. To arrange an appointment please contact me on 0412 814 817.
